Maria, a Canadian citizen, and her European husband are business owners in Germany. They have 3 children, aged 17, 15 and 11. The family wants to move to Canada, so Maria’s Canadian parents agreed to look after the children while Maria and her husband return to Germany to sell their business and home over the next year.
- We helped her purchase Visitors to Canada insurance for her children during their first 3-months, to ensure they had adequate medical coverage while waiting for BC’s Medical Services Plan (MSP) to start. She and her husband also purchased Visitors to Canada insurance during their visits to Canada.
- We advised Maria to obtain SIN cards for all her family members. The SIN cards would allow them to open RESP for her two younger children who are still young enough to qualify for free government grant matches on any RESP contributions she puts in.
- We also helped Maria get a job as a bookkeeper with one of our accounting firm contacts in Victoria.
In the future:
- Connect her to foreign exchange professionals to cost-effectively transfer large amount of money, from the sale of their home and business, from Euros to Canadian dollars
- Help the family re-establish their business and bring their business equipment over to Canada, and provide guidance on tax and business rules
- Help the family look for suitable extended health & dental insurance plans to protect against medical expenses
- Provide guidance on building credit so the family can buy a new home in Canada in the coming years, at which time we could also recommend knowledgeable mortgage and real estate professionals to assist.
- Start investment and retirement planning once family is fully settled in Canada
